Trades in Winchcombe
1 electrician and 2 heating engineers and 4 roofers on our registers cover Winchcombe.
Short answer
Winchcombe is an old market town below the Cotswold edge, near Sudeley Castle. It is in Tewkesbury Borough, so Tewkesbury Borough Council handles planning, not Cotswold District Council. The town has a conservation area and an Article 4 direction. Check both before any visible change to a roof or a front wall.

Stone and timber-framed houses
North Street, High Street, Hailes Street and Gloucester Street have stone and timber-framed houses, many with steep stone slate roofs. In the 19th century, Emma Dent of Sudeley Castle built or improved many houses in the town, including the Dent Almshouses. Older homes may still have rubber-insulated cable or a fuse box with rewirable fuses.
What the Article 4 direction means
An Article 4 direction removes some permitted development rights. Work that is normally allowed, such as a new roof material or outside lights on a front wall, can then need planning permission. Stanton and Snowshill have Article 4 directions too.
The river and the network
The River Isbourne runs through the town, so check the flood risk for houses on low ground. National Grid Electricity Distribution runs the network. Tewkesbury Borough Council switched on a public charge point at the Back Lane car park in March 2026.
Mostly mains gas
In the 2021 Census, 79.3 per cent of households in Winchcombe ward used mains gas alone. Tewkesbury Borough has the lowest off-gas share of the four councils in these towns. DESNZ estimates that 11.5 per cent of its homes had no gas connection in 2024.
